3 Tips for the (newly diagnosed) diabetic

This comes from my own experience with diabetes.
I have been diagnosed with diabetes type one on the fourteenth of July 2017.
The struggle is real. But you are not alone in this.
On the contrary, it would surprise you how many people have it themselves or knows someone with diabetes.
Thanks to the glucose sensor, you can “spot them out in the wild” these days.

1. Surround yourself

Surround yourself with: people who love you, no matter what, people with thorough knowledge about diabetes and people with diabetes.
So you wil have three different perspectives on the subject. The support, the professional and the understanding.

2. Learn to know your body with diabetes

The next one is to learn to know your body with diabetes and recognise signals.
Learn to recognise on what you are feeling, hyper, hypo, how it reacts to different situations: exercise, stress, sickness, ...  and keep it in a diary.

3. Food= hard

Food: the hardest of them all....
I can only say that this is one of the hardest aspects of being a diabetic.
Always responsible of what you are eating. Same tip as the last one. Write. It. Down.
It helps to learn calculate insulin rations and makes it easier to look it up afterwards. Rijst: fast rise and fast low. Pasta: fast rise and stable afterwards, ...
